Winning & Learning!
The U9 Select 99ers were back in action this week as they had a few days rest between games.

The U9 Select 99ers had a light week on the ice compared to last weekend facing the Mount Hamilton Blues on Wednesday Night in Hamilton and then coming back home for a Friday Night tilt with the Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets at the Gretzky Centre.

On the road Wednesday, the U9 Select 99ers faced the Mount Hamilton Blues.  The 99ers came out strong scoring 2 quick goals in the first period before Mount Hamilton answered brining the game to 2-1 in the second.  From that point on, it was all Brantford, scoring 4 unanswered goals and coming away with the 6-1 win.   Good passing and strong positional play carried the team through all periods and the coaches were very happy with how the team played.

A special shoutout to our standout players: Nolan White and Harrison Hockin, who were both tremendous in the win.  Nolan provided great support for his teammates, hustling all game, passing and even scoring a goal of his own.  Not to be outdone, Harrison displayed some incredible hustle of his own, skating hard to the puck and making some great plays. Congratulations and well-earned to our "Hardest Workers" of the game!

Next up was the Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets at home at the Wayne Gretzky Centre on Friday Night.  The 99ers were on a 10-game winning streak and were hoping to get past a tough Woodstock team to make it 11 in a row.

The 99ers had to claw their way back from being down twice during the game but unfortunately, the third time was just a little too late.  Woodstock would open up the scoring in the first period and would net another in the second to go up 2-0.  However, the fight from the 99ers never quit as the 99ers tied the game late in the third period, 2-2 with less than 3 minutes to go in the game.  A costly penalty led to the Jr. Navy Vets scoring with less than 25 seconds to go in the game.  The 99ers would make a late 2 on 1 rush, but the buzzer went before they could cross the blue line.  Working hard and never giving up, the 99ers displayed great effort all game and were unfortunate to not have a few pucks bounce their way.  The coaches were very happy with how the team played and are looking forward to watching the team bounce back next week.

Congrats to our "Hardest Workers" award winners for this game: Thatcher Lawson and Graham Haines.  Thatcher hustled all game long, especially on the penalty kill creating a great opportunity for a shorthanded goal and on the back check.  Graham played exceptionally on the blue line, making some strong plays on Defense.   Way to go boys!

The Select 99ers now have an 8-day rest before their rematch with the cross-town rivals, Brantford Saints, on Saturday February 15th at 6:00 PM at the Wayne Gretzky Centre.

Go 99ers!
