Strong Team Play Continues!
The U9 Select 99ers were back in action this weekend with two games on back-to-back days.
The U9 Select 99ers had to dig deep this weekend and muster up enough energy to play two tough opponents starting with the Rosedale Devils on Saturday Night, then facing the Waterloo Wolves on Sunday.
Playing at Home on Saturday Night, the U9 Select 99ers hosted the Rosedale Devils. Rosedale came out very strong keeping the game close, 3-2, until the third period. In the third, the 99ers exploded for 3 more goals and ended up winning the game 6-2. The coaches were very pleased with the effort displayed again Rosedale, they were a strong team and the 99ers played a very well rounded, team game, to come out with the win.
A special shoutout to our standout players: Charlie Jones and George Wills, who were both tremendous in the win. Charlie played extremely strong from the backend, helping to keep the puck down low and even scoring a goal himself. George displayed incredible effort and grit by never giving up and scoring a goal of his own. Congratulations and well-earned to our "Hardest Workers" of the game!
Next up was the Waterloo Wolved in Waterloo on Sunday Night. The 99ers at this point had been on the ice 4 times in less than two days and they were about to be tested with their 5th time!
The 99ers had to dig really deep as the score was close all game. Waterloo opened up the scoring in the first period and were up 1-0 going into the second. Coming back and answering hard in the second, the 99ers were able to tie it up going into the third period. Working hard and never giving up, the 99ers were able to score with less than 5 minutes on the clock and hold out for the 2-1 victory. The whole team kept their feet moving, despite their tired bodies, and the coaches couldn't be prouder!
This marked their 9th win of the season in a row, putting their record at 9-0!
Huge congrats to our "Hardest Workers" award winners for this game: Greyson Dunski and Camden Eldgride. Greryson and Camden both played a complete two-way game, hustling up and down the ice putting lots of pressure on their opponents and making smart plays. Way to go boys!
Upcoming games this week are an away game vs. the Mount Hamilton Blues on Wednesday at 5:00 and a home tilt vs. The Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets Friday at 6:30 at the Gretzky Centre.
Can't wait to see you all there!
