Quick Start Paves Way To Win
Looking to avenge a pair of losses to the Woodstock team the CRS 99ers brought a team focus of playing a three period game which was kick started with a goal with only 29 seconds off the clock as the 99ers jumped on the visiting Navy Vets.

Dakota Culbert scored from just inside the right circle beating the goalie on the short side with assists on the play going to Brent Smolarz and Jesse Stremler. The 99ers took the first two penalties of the game with this being only time that Woodstock mounted any real threat in the opening period but Ben Beechey was solid in making the stops. When the home team was finally rewarded with a PP of their own, the 99er won the draw, totally controlled the puck, and it only took 35 seconds until a blast from Scot Smid increased the lead 2-0 with just under 5 minutes to play in the period with Tyler Schaeffer and Stefan DeDominicis adding the helpers on the play.
In the second, things continued to go the 99ers way as Jacob Ferreira sent Culbert down the wing where he beat the defense and fed Larry Hill in the slot and he fired home his 4th of the season at 6:39 of the period. However the difference between confidence and over confidence is usually measured in effort and after a line change and a face-off at center, it took the Navy Vets only 8 seconds to get on the board making it 3-1 at 6:31 of the middle frame. The home team took two undisciplined penalties again giving the visitors an opportunity to gain some momentum and when they found themselves on the bad end of 7 penalties to 3 with the last coming as time expired in the second, it finally caught up to them.
Opening the period on a full 2 minute PP, the Vets closed the gap to 3-2 with a third period goal just over a minute into the penalty and the period. About 5 minutes later, the CRS Midgets went to the PP for only the third time in the game and again were rewarded quickly as Mike Gotkowski banged in his 6th only 23 seconds into the advantage with DeDominicis with his second, and Ray Munro chipped in with assists on the play. Schaeffer scored what proved to be the last goal 2 minutes later with Blaise Burtnick and Andrew Lombardi adding assists, and despite both teams having additional chances with the man advantage there was no more scoring in the last 12 minutes with the game ending 5-2 for the home town boys.
For the game the 99ers were good going 2 for 5 on the PP, and even better on the PK holding Woodstock to just 1 for 9.
A strong game was played by many, but notables on the Pk were the D corp of Mitch McIsaac, Andrew Schunk, RJ Huszczo, Smolarz, Smid, Ferreira, and Burtnick. Matt General also played a strong game returning after missing 3 games with an injury.
