HL Kick-Off Weekend Survival Guide
Try on your equipment
ahead of time and make sure everything fits. If it doesn’t, it’s time to go SHOPPING!
Sharpen your skates.
If you are using a pair of skates from last year, get them sharpened before the start of the season. They may have accumulated some rust or be dull from the end of last season.
Do a practice run.
Try on your gear at home.
This way you’ll know you have everything you need and will look like a pro on Day 1.
Pack your bag the night before.
Parents will be stressed out on Day 1, make the day a little easier on them.
Pack a jersey and socks.
We won’t get new ones for a week or two, so bring ones from last year or borrow a set from a buddy. Please make sure they were washed this Summer, your neighbours in the dressing room will appreciate it.
Check your helmet for loose screws.
Safety is key, tighten up screws before you come to the rink. If you need replacements, visit one of our fine local hockey stores. No one wants to be told they have a screw loose.
Remember your neck guard.
It’s mandatory before stepping on the ice for practices or games. No exceptions.
Bring a water bottle.
We’re skating hard this weekend, you’ll need it!
Dressing room keys are at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre front desk.
Girls from Peewee and up can sign out a key for their VIP change room.
Have FUN!
That’s why we go to the rink…enjoy!
See you at the rink!
