The key to success is coaching. We look for dedicated coaches that can manage all facets of a busy hockey team. The commitment is extensive, but the experience is incredibly rewarding being the leader of a group of athletes with a common goal.

Coach Selection Process:

Applicants are asked to complete the online form available at the link below.  Additional emails to committee members are strongly discouraged.

The application has several detailed questions, and you are encouraged to thoughtfully answer each item. Each question has character limits so please be brief and succinct in your responses.

The committee will recommend a final slate of coaches to the Board of Directors who will then be asked to approve the list.

Not all applicants will be interviewed.  If the committee believes that there is a strong applicant for a given team, then that individual may be appointed without further interviews.

Note: All members of a coaching staff (head coach, assistant, trainer, and manager) must ultimately be approved by the BMHA Board of Directors.

Coach Certification Requirements:

U9: Coach 1 – Intro to Coach

U11 – U18: Coach 2 – Coach Level

All coaches require their Respect-In-Sport, Gender Identity as well as a current Police Check (see additional information re: Vulnerable Sector Check below).

Thank you in advance for your interest.

Important Information Regarding Vulnerable Sector Checks.

Process for Returning Individuals for the 2025-26 season

Team Officials, On-Ice Officials, or Third-Party Instructors, etc. that are returning for the 2025-26 season, and had their screening approved by the OHF this past season with a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from 2023 or 2024, will only be required to complete the online declaration through the online submission portal for the upcoming season. The declaration from 2024-25 will expire on May 31, 2025.

Process for Returning Individuals with a 2022 VSC (expires May 31, 2025)
Team Officials, On-Ice Officials, or Third-Party Instructors, etc. that are returning for the 2025-26 season and had their screening approved by the OHF this past season with a Vulnerable Sector Check from 2022 will be required to submit a new VSC and the online declaration for this season. Both are done through the online submission portal. The screening for these individuals will expire May 31, 2025.

Process for New Individuals
New Team Officials, On-Ice Officials, or Third-Party Instructors, etc. for the 2025-26 season will be required to submit a VSC and complete the online declaration for this season. New Individuals must register with their Association in the HCR prior to submitting their screening to the OHF.

Receipts for Coach and Bench Staff
The OHF will NOT be accepting any receipts for a VSC between the periods of April 1 and July 30, 2025. The police services generally take 6-8 weeks to process an application, so anyone who is required to submit a VSC should start the process with their police service as soon as possible. They can then submit their completed VSC to the OHF and complete the online declaration once they have had it returned to them by police services.
