Deadline for Applications is Sunday, January 31, 2021.
The key to success is coaching. We look for experienced coaches that are capable of managing all facets of a busy hockey team. The commitment is extensive. Over the course of a 7 month season, teams will commonly have 115 or more ice times plus dry land and other off-ice events. But the experience is incredibly rewarding being the leader of a group of elite athletes with a common goal. Head coaches at the AAA level will receive a coaching honorarium based on their training and experience.
Coach Selection Process:
An experienced committee will make the decisions regarding the coaching positions. The committee will employ a consensus-building mentality throughout the selection process. Voting takes place as necessary.
Committee members are declared in conflict of interest where family members are involved at a certain level, and as such have no input to the decision.
Applicants are asked to complete the online form available at the link below. Additional emails to committee members are strongly discouraged.
The application has a number of detailed questions and you are encouraged to thoughtfully answer each item. Each question has character limits so please be brief and succinct in your responses.
Selecting coaches is a time-consuming endeavor with the committee spending as much time as necessary to find the most qualified and capable individual for a particular team. The process generally involves the following:
1. Each of the committee members will review the applications and provide an initial score based on the submission.
2. The applicants will be screened based on the score and an initial interview will take place - potentially by phone - with one or more members of the committee.
3. The final screened list may be called in for a longer in-person meeting with the committee.
4. The committee will meet and come to a final consensus on the candidates based on all available information.
5. The committee will recommend a final slate of coaches to the Board of Directors who will then be asked to approve the list.
Not all applicants will be interviewed. If the committee believes that there is a strong applicant for a given team, then that individual may be appointed without further interviews.
Note: All members of a coaching staff (head coach, assistant, trainer, and manager) must ultimately be approved by the BMHA Board of Directors.
Coach Certification Requirements:
AAA Coaches applying for U12 and U13 teams must have or be willing to acquire a minimum of DS1 certification (2 day training course).
AAA Coaches applying for U14 or U15 teams must have or be willing to acquire the HP1 certification (1 week training course).
All coaches require their Respect-In-Sport, Gender Identity as well as a current Police Check.
Timing:
AAA Coaching applicants must be submitted no later than Sunday, January 31, 2020.
BMHA typically receives a large number of applicants so only those chosen for an interview will be contacted. Processing and interview setup will be electronic via email. If you do not have reliable access to email please indicate that clearly in your application. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom conference call. If this is not practical please indicate this in your application.
Thank you in advance for your interest.
