BMHA 99ers Accepting MD Coach Applications for 2019-20 Season
Submitted By Rob Symons on Sunday, May 5, 2019
BMHA is now accepting applications to coach MD teams from Minor Novice to Midget.

Deadline for applications is Monday, May 20, 2019.

The key to success is coaching. We look for experienced coaches that are capable of managing all facets of a busy hockey team.  The commitment is extensive. Over the course of a 7 month season, teams will commonly have 100 or more ice times plus dryland and other off-ice events.

Coach Selection Process:

A selection committee will make the decisions regarding the coaching positions. The committee will employ a consensus-building mentality throughout the selection process.  Voting takes place as necessary.

Committee members declare a conflict of interest where family members are involved, and as such have no input to the decision.

Applicants are asked to complete the online form available at the link below. Additional emails to committee members are strongly discouraged.

The application has a number of detailed questions and you are encouraged to thoughtfully answer each item. Each question has character limits so please be brief and succinct in your responses.

Coaching selection is a time-consuming endeavor, with the committee spending as much time as necessary to find the most qualified and capable individual for a particular team.  The process generally involves the following:

1.  Review of the applications and initial score assigned based on criteria

2.  Initial screening on selected candidates either by phone or in-person with one or more members of the committee

3.  The final candidate/candidates brought in for more in-depth interview with larger committee

4.  The committee will come to a final consensus on the candidates factoring in their resume of experience and interview

5.  The committee will recommend a final slate of coaches to the Board of Directors for approval

Note: Not all applicants will be interviewed. If the committee believes that there is a clear leading candidate for a given team, that individual may be moved forward for board approval without further interviews.

Note: All members of a coaching staff (head coach, assistant, trainer, and manager) must ultimately be approved by the BMHA executive.

Coach Certification Requirements:

All MD Coaches must have or be willing to acquire the Development 1 certification (2 day course) prior to the beginning of the hockey season.

All coaches and bench staff require their Respect-In-Sport, Gender Identity as well as a current Police Check.

MD Coaching applicants must be submitted no later than Monday, May 20, 2019.

Interviews will take place from late May to early June.

Important to note: BMHA typically receives a large number of applicants.  Only those chosen for an interview will be contacted. Communication and interview setup will be done electronically via email.  If you do not have reliable access to email, please indicate that clearly in your application. Some interviews may be via telephone conference call.  If this is not practical, please indicate this in your application.  Otherwise, please be sure to list a phone number in your personal information where you can be reached.

MD coach selections will be finalized early June with a planned submission of candidates to the Board of Directors at or prior to the June board meeting.  Final notifications and announcements will take place after Board approval is received.

Thank you in advance for your interest.
