CHAMPIONS!!
On Sunday afternoon the boys battled hard and came out on top of London Bandits, with a come from behind 5-4 OT victory to secure the Cambridge Hawks BB/B Early Bird Tournament Championship.
We started the weekend off on Friday with a 3-1 loss against the same London Bandits team. As a group we felt like we could have played better and made better decisions.
On Saturday we rebounded with a 5-1 victory over Guelph and a 3-1 victory over Milton. With the 2 wins we finished the round robin in 3rd place and earned a spot in the 2 vs 3 game Sunday morning against Waterloo, who finished second.
Going into Sunday our goal was to come to play and earn a rematch against London. The boys came out on fire and played to a convincing 10-4 victory earning our rematch with London.
Going into the final our mindset was to be a better team then we were on Friday. We battled hard all game as it was back and forth for the first half, then we fell behind 4-2. We knew if we continued to play like we were and put pressure on, we would get our chances. We battled back to tie up the game at 4 and send it into overtime.
In overtime we didn't quit and battled hard. With the pressure we caused a turn over and forced the puck towards the net and banged in a rebound to secure the 5-4 win and take home the CHAMIONSHIP!!
This weekend was a great learning experience for the kids early on in the year. All teams are going to have a chance to win every night. It's going to be which ever team comes to play. I was very proud of the boys, as they had the no quit attituded and battled through ups and downs.
Great way to start off the year.
