The Season so far... in a nutshell
Where to begin? The team consists of a nice mix of 1st and 2nd year Midget boys.
They bonded very early and seem to be having a lot of fun. They are enjoying each other with their group chats, before and after practices and before the games.
It's during the games where it falls apart. The Major reason for this is the lack of goal production. And believe me, they are trying to 'pot one' or 'fill the net'! The negativity, selfish play, chirping,
and complaining sets in. The overall team morale gets down. But at practices, my god, you would think we are leading the league in goal scoring! And that's not taking anything away from the keepers who are doing a fine job trying to keep the pucks out of our net. The boys seem to be 'snake bit', 'not getting any breaks' but with patience and persistence it will come. It is a long season, we hope this is just a bump in the road we will overcome!
We have stressed to not give up, to win each battle... win each puck race... win each period. If we accomplish this the 2 points will be ours!
The boys seemed to have bought into what we are preaching and teaching. As long as they support one another on and off the ice, work and compete as hard as they can the results will come.
From the onset my goal was to put together a team who will have fun together, create memories, to develop the boys into better hockey players and take away friendships.
That goal hasn't changed and I am looking forward to the rest of the season!
