On Sunday, November 23rd, the U10AAA Brantford 99ers hosted the Kitchener U10AAA Jr Rangers for what became far more than a regular-season matchup. The arena was buzzing—not just with the energy of young athletes, but with a powerful show of community, compassion, and unity.
In support of a sibling on the Kitchener team who is currently battling cancer, BMHA's 99ers invited along special guests to brighten the day: Disney Princesses and Bluey. These beloved characters filled the rink with smiles, hugs, photos, and encouragement, reminding everyone that joy and strength often come from the smallest moments.
For the Brantford 99ers, the gesture hit especially close to home. Just a week earlier, on November 15th, the team took part in BMHA’s annual Hockey Fights Cancer Day. During the event, each player wrote down the name of someone they were playing for—a tradition that personalizes the fight and reinforces the message behind the cause. Almost every member of the U10AAA 99ers proudly wrote the same name: Penelope.
Before the game the 99ers presented the family with thoughtful gifts and a special Hockey Fights Cancer Jersey complete with Penelope's last name on the back and signed by every one of the Brantford players. A heartfelt gesture meant to show Penelope and her family that they are not alone.
