NOW ACCEPTING MD COACHING APPLICATIONS
Submitted By Kevin Murray on Friday, May 19, 2017
Brantford Minor Hockey is now accepting MD coaching applications for the 2017-18 hockey season.

Process Timing:
  · Coach applicants should submit their applications by no later than Friday, June 9, 2017.
  · Coach Interviews will occur during June, and coach selection will be finalized in early July.

Coach Certification Requirements:
• Atom and peewee coaches must have a minimum of Coach 2-Coach Level certification.
• Bantam and midget coaches must have a minimum of D1 Trained certification.
• All coaches also require their Respect-In-Sport/Speak Out certification as well as a current Police Check.
Coach Honorarium:
• BMHA has introduced a new and increased coaching honorarium which values training, coaching continuity and team flexibility.
• The honorarium for coaches is based on a set of criteria including years coached and certifications achieved.

Composition of Selection Committee:
• Brantford Minor Hockey strives to make its coach selection process as fair, objective, well informed and inclusive as possible.
• Accordingly, a Selection Committee is appointed and comprised of the core directors of: Coach Development, Rep. Hockey, Association Head Coach and Parental Involvement. Committee composition may also include an independent board member or independent community member.
• Committee members are declared in conflict of interest where family members are involved at a certain level, and as such have no input to the decision.

Coach Selection Process:
• A consensus-building process is used through the selection process. Voting takes place as necessary.
• Overall, there continues to be strong interest in being a volunteer coach, resulting in multiple applicants for any one team.
• With such interest comes the need to distinguish and make choices and there are many factors that enter into the decision-making process.
• It is a time-consuming endeavor with the committee spending as much time as necessary to find the most qualified and capable individual for a particular team.
• While all coaches must re-apply for coaching positions, not all applicants will be interviewed. If the committee believes that if there is a good applicant for a given team, then that individual may be appointed without further interviews.
• Interviewing frequently adds little to the process unless an applicant has expressed an interest in a different team.
• All members of a coaching staff (head coach, assistant, trainer, and manager) must be approved by the BMHA executive.

Thank you in advance for your interest and co-operation.
