Knights Romp over CRS Midgets
After playing two very tight games with the first place Knights, earlier in the season, the Contractors Rental Supply Midgets tanked one on their first trip to London.  After scoring the first goal, a short handed marker by Tyler Schaeffer, the 99ers watched as the Knights proceeded to score the next 7 in a row in handing the team their worst defeat of the season.

Insert Schaeffer

After battling to a 2-1 loss and a 3-3 tie with the Knights in the first two meetings in Brantford, the 99ers made a couple of costly mistakes and then rolled over as the Knights ran up the score in a decisive 7-1 win.  The short handed marker by Schaeffer who has been on a hot streak of late scoring his 7th of the season, picking up a nice chip pass from Mitch McIssac just past the midway point of the first to open the scoring and provide the 99ers with a lead.  It looked like the CRS midgets would take the lead into the second, but a mental error positionally by a 99er defenseman allowed the Knights to turn the puck over and then walk out of the corner untouched to beat Connor Curtin on a cross crease deke with less than a minute to play to tie things at 1-1.

The Knights carried the play in the second and although the score remained tied, the shots and chances were both in the Knight's favour.  A poor effort on the wall by a Brantford forward as he left the puck to avoid a hit was passed to a wide open Knight in the slot and he deposited a one timer behind Curtin with 4 minutes to play.  This took the steam out of the 99ers and the Knights scored two more on long shots in the next minute to open up a 4-1 lead.

The focus of the third was to compete and score the next goal, but a too many men on the ice penalty when a 99er jumped off the bench and played a puck putting the team down and the Knights scored on the PP to up the score to 5-1 before the period was 3 minutes old.  At this point several players mailed it in, and without the effort the game become a track-meet with the Knights having countless odd-man rushes against the 99ers "D" and goaltender.  Another penalty, this time in the offensive zone cost the team another one and then a shorthanded marker with less than 3 minutes to go wrapped up the scoring.  As mentioned, this was the worst defeat of the season, and if not for some luck and a few good saves, it could easily have been a double digit loss.

There are a couple of days to regroup and refocus, then next up for the 99ers is another trip to London, this time to take on the 3rd place Bandits.
